Family Dinner

I was inspired by the importance of family within Argentine culture and wanted to portray how it influences everyday life. I looked into old family photos and decided to recreate one of my mother eating dinner with her parents. It is a simple, common scene, but the image shows the importance of spending time together everyday.

A Foreign Friend

My foreign exchange student.

The smiles beamed around the table

her first Thanksgiving

with me and my family

and all the food,

but the family was her favorite part.

Will she ever experience this again?

Trick or treat.

The first Halloween she got to experience

with me.

Her first time dressing up.

It was so different from what she was used to,

but she loved it.

Will she ever experience this again?

Makeup, hair, dress.

Her first Homecoming

I got to help get her ready.

It was her first time receiving flowers.

She was so excited to be with her new friends.

Will she ever experience this again?

The lights, trees, decorations.

It was her first time experiencing such festivities

with me.

The reflection of the lights in her eyes.

She looked at them majestically.

We took pictures and sipped hot cocoa.

Will she ever experience this again?

We drive.

Until finally we arrive.

Terminal C.

It's time to say our goodbyes.

The tears prick our eyes.

Will we ever see eachother again?

My inspiration for this poem was the foreign exchange student from Japan that I hosted earlier this year. She had a really big impact on my family’s life and on mine as well, and she got to experience so many amazing things with us.
