flow

Jaclyn Cohen — Senior

I created this piece over the summer while I had no access to the internet or my home. In it, I depict a state of emotional flow, in which one feels fully connected to themselves. Water has a tendency to join things, and thus a figure submerged in water is joined to themself. The heart is placed on the outside of the body—done in embroidery—and wraps around the figure to portray emotional vulnerability and the knowledge a person gains when they are finally in tune with themself. Figuring out exactly how you feel and what you want can be challenging, and many people hide their true feelings from themself as a form of protection. However, with this piece, I emphasize the beauty of understanding oneself in an honest and self-revealing way.
