MY EYES

“This piece represents my experience being legally blind. My vision is 20/200 with the best possible correction, the definition of legal blindness. 20/200 means that I can see something clear from at most 20 feet away that people with perfect vision can see clearly at 200 feet away. However, what most people struggle to comprehend when I talk about my vision is that it is always 20/200, even with my glasses on. My vision can only correct to 20/200, as without my glasses it is 20/600. My vision is a disability and very different from the average glasses wearer. It’s very hard for me to express this as people do not understand. Therefore, I use art to express my experiences and frustrations with legal blindness.”
