This piece depicts the deterioration of a species over time due to habitat destruction. The Florida Grasshopper Sparrow is an endangered species in Florida, and it is slowly going extinct because the Florida Grasslands are being taken over by agricultural lands and private land ownership. By using the block printing technique, I convey the agonizing death of a beautiful creature. As the viewer looks at each print, they are confronted by the horror of the cause of the bird's decline themselves. With this piece, I want to bring awareness to this issue so that people will be inspired to take action (in the form of educating oneself and donating to causes) to help the sparrow recover before it reaches its otherwise inevitable fate—the final print.
