What is your favorite part in the process of creating art?
“In the process of creating art, my favorite part would have to be the end result. At first, things might not look the greatest, but it’s important to trust the process, and the final product is always pretty satisfying.”
How would you describe your art style?
“I would describe my art style as pretty realistic with a fantastical approach. For example, if I paint skin, I might incorporate a bunch of colors that aren't in skin, like vibrant blues and greens.”
What inspires you to create art?
“Other artists and certain situations inspire me. Sometimes I will see a cool concept and be inspired to try my own rendition of it. Other times, I will want to create art inspired by how I feel or how I want to convey a subject. I really like to play around with symbolism and stuff like that to bring out the situation I'm trying to portray.”
What motivated you to begin to draw/paint?
“I've always been super into art even from a really young age. I started art lessons in a little underground art club in kindergarten and it just went from there. I'm still in contact with my art teacher from back then, and she's a good friend.”
Who do you look up to in the art world?
“I really look up to old artists. People like John Everett Millais and Lautrec are my favorites and [I like] to create [pieces] inspired by their techniques. I love the way they use color and texture, especially in realistic pieces.”
What do you see in your future with your art?
“Art is always going to be a part of my life, but not necessarily the primary part of it. In the future I hope to continue creating for the sheer enjoyment of it, but I don't plan on it becoming a job.”
What would you say is your main goal or drive in your creations?
“My main goal in my creations is to be satisfied with the outcome and to have it be interpreted by other people. I really love the idea of staring at a piece of art and deciphering the meaning.”
What advice would you give someone who wants to pursue visual arts but is hesitant?
“I would say go for it. It's easy to get really caught up in doing what you THINK you should do, so always remember the primary goal of art is for the fun of it, and to enjoy your art.”
